The U.S. Under-16 Women’s National Team defeated the hosts, 2-0, in their opening game of the eight-team UEFA Friendship Tournament in Riva, Turkey, thanks to goals from midfielders Addison Feldman and Jaiden Rodriguez.

The USA Women’s Youth National Teams had never played against Turkey before, and they dominated the game from the beginning, amassing a 12-1 shot edge.

The USA took the lead early and again late in the match. First, Rodriguez scored on a breakaway in the 12th minute, finishing in the lower left corner. Then, in the 84th minute, Feldman headed in a cross from the right wing that forward Ella Kral had set up.

On April 13, the USA will play Vietnam in Group A; on April 16, they will play Botswana. The National Training Center of the federation, Turkey’s TFF Riva Facility, is the venue for all of the matches. Wales, Paraguay, China, and Uganda make up Group B.

A placement match based on the final group standings will be played on April 18 between all the teams. The first-place team from Group A will play the first-place team from Group B for the championship; the two teams in second place will play for third place; the third-place finishers from the groups will play for fifth place; and the fourth-place finishers will play for seventh place.

Players eligible for this U-16 WYNT cycle are those born on or after January 1, 2008. All players born in 2008 were chosen by U.S. head coach Patchy Toledo for this competition.
