After traveling to Soldier Field to play Chicago Fire FC, Atlanta United is back at home. Although the team was unable to register a goal during Saturday night’s game, they did manage to collect one road point and their third clean sheet of the season.
The Atlanta United squad will play Minnesota United FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, May 4. Tyler Wolff, the team’s manager, spoke with local media on Tuesday about the team’s performance in April and upcoming improvements.
Homegrown Tyler Wolff has already made six appearances for Atlanta United in 2024 after having a breakout season in 2023 with a career-high 18 appearances and five goals.
During the media availability on Tuesday, Wolff discussed the game versus Chicago and how the 5-Stripes hope to improve upon it.
On Saturday, they had opportunities since Atlanta had 16 shots, 60 percent of the possession, and nearly 90 percent of the passes were accurate. Twenty-four minutes into the game, Wolff, the game’s starter, looked to have scored, but an offside call prevented the goal from counting.
“I would say going into the game last week, one of the big points was mentality,” Wolff said. “We would score then let goals go in right after. Last week, we really worked on our mentality. Going away in this league is always tough, so I think a positive is that clean sheet.”
In response to a question about how he stays on the attack even when the outcomes might not be apparent, Wolff replied that he understands and respects the process and executes their practiced game plans.
According to Wolff, “sticking to the basics.” “Making connections between passes and maintaining the drive and enthusiasm to score goals.”
In addition, Atlanta United has two games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to get ready for: this weekend’s encounter against Minnesota on May 4 and the next match against D.C. United on May 11; however, on May 7, they will play Charlotte Independence in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
