ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The home team United States Men’s National team soccer roster (USMNT) beat the visiting 10-man Bosnia and Herzegovina in a friendly match on Dec. 18 (8 p.m. EST, FS1/Unimás/TUDN) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Cole Bassett scored the lone and winning basket of USMNT in their win in the 89th minute.
Bassett, a 20-year-old midfielder for the Colorado Rapids, slammed home a rebound off a shot by 18-year-old Jonathan Gomez, the former Louisville City defender headed to Real Sociedad. Gomez had also just made his U.S. debut as a second-half substitute.
The newcomers teamed up for a goal that salvaged the Americans’ 17th win of 2021, surpassing the team mark set in 2013.
Defensive specialists George Bello and Brooks Lennon are part of the starting line-up of the 26-man USMNT roster.
Bello, 19, has made five appearances for the USMNT, making his senior team debut against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Bello started two matches during the USMNT’s run to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title, including the 1-0 victory against Mexico in the final. Most recently, Bello started two Concacaf qualification matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Honduras on Sept. 9 and Panama on Oct. 11.
Lennon, 24, has yet to make his senior team debut but has been called into USMNT camp previously. He earned four caps and scored four goals with the U.S. U-23’s, 17 caps and seven goals with the U-20s, and nine caps and one goal with the U-18’s.
