ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The United States Men’s Soccer Team (USMNT) has reached the finals of the Gold Cup after a dramatic 1-0 victory against Asian soccer powerhouse Qatar in the semifinal round in Austin, Texas, on Thursday night.
USMNT striker Gyasi Zardes provided the winning and late goal for the team in their hard-fought win against Qatar.
With so much at stake in the match, the two teams fought toe to toe from the get-go.
As the game is headed to a scoreless draw, Zardes provided some late-game heroics to carry his team to the Gold Cup championship.
Three members of the USMNT are players from Atlanta United FC Miles Robinson, veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan and George Bello.
Guzan, 36 is tagged as one of the most senior members of the team.
The veteran United goalkeeper has 64 international appearances, became Tim Howard’s backup at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, and started at the 2016 Copa America.
The last time he played for the US was in the 2019 exhibition game against Uruguay.
