ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The dream of the United States Men’s National team soccer roster (USMNT) to win in front of its home fans on Sunday did not go as planned.
The USMNT only managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against the visiting Canadian soccer team at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
Brenden Aaronson scored the lone goal for USMNT which allowed it to equalize with Canada.
On its opening game last September 2 on the road at Estadio Cuscatlán, USMNT was held to a scoreless draw against the home team El Salvador
The home team USMNT was very aggressive from the get-go but the visitor played tough defense and make it hard for them to score.
Two members of USMNT are players of the Atlanta United FC namely defensive specialists Miles Robinson and George Bello.
Robinson has nine caps and three goals with the USMNT, earning his senior team debut on Sept. 6, 2019, in a friendly against Mexico. He made his first start and scored his first international goal in a 7-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Robinson started all six matches and scored two goals at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup where he helped the U.S. secure five clean sheets and scored the game-winning goal in the final to defeat Mexico 1-0. The 24-year-old was also recently named to his first MLS All-Star team and has started 14 of his 15 MLS appearances in 2021.
Bello has made three appearances for the USMNT, making his senior team debut against Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021. Most recently, Bello started two matches during the USMNT’s run to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title, including the 1-0 victory against Mexico in the final. The 19-year-old left-back this week became the first Atlanta Homegrown player to be named an MLS All-Star and has started 15 of his 16 MLS appearances in 2021.
