ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The federation announced Wednesday that the US men’s national team will play two friendlies in January at various MLS-based locations in Southern California to kick off the 2026 World Cup cycle. The games will mark the start of the four years leading up to hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2026 with Canada and Mexico. For the first time, there will be 48 teams competing in that tournament, and the hosts will be chosen randomly from among the three Concacaf nations.
