ATLANTA, GEORGIA—One of the biggest amateur soccer tournaments in the world will take place at the Silverbacks Stadium here on June 12-13.
The tournament dubbed as the World Cup of Soccer will offer a whopping total of $100,000 cash prize with $80,000 for the winner and $20,000 for the runner-up.
Thirty-two teams will compete in the Premier category of “Cup Mariachi” for the top prize of $80,000.
The “Cup Mariachi” which is already on its seventh edition will also have a separate category of Category B comprising of 16 teams.
The winner of Category B will get $10,000.
Organized by Julio Roa, of Mexican, origin, but also with Central American blood, the tournament has become very popular through the years since it started.
“Cup Mariachi” is popular not only for the huge cash prizes but also for the level of players that are participating.
Fast-rising soccer players from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and other countries are the common participants in the tournament.
Among the past champions of the tournaments are soccer clubs Real Espana de Houston, Pisaflores, Real Spain, and Murcielagos de Utah.
