BRADENTON, Fla. — From Bradenton to the Benz, the pipeline is real.
Atlanta United’s Academy flexed big time at the 2025 Generation adidas Cup, showing the world that the future of 5-Stripes soccer is fast, fearless, and ready for prime time. Both the U18 and U16 squads made serious noise against top international competition, turning heads with statement wins and knockout round heroics.
U18s Stun Inter Milan, Storm to GA Cup Semifinals
Led by ATL UTD 2 standouts like Adyn Torres, Kaiden Moore, Ashton Gordon, Santiago Pita, and Cooper Sanchez, the U18s balled out in the Championship Bracket, taking down big names and winning fans with grit, style, and that Atlanta swagger.
The highlight? A massive penalty shootout win over Inter Milan, with keeper Jonathan Ransom playing the hero with two clutch saves, followed by Moore hitting the walk-off pen and celebrating with a nod to Viktor Gyökeres’ mask. The entire U16 squad stormed the field. It was ATL culture on full display — rowdy, proud, and together.
And Ransom? He didn’t stop there. He came up big again in the quarters vs. Portland Timbers and again in the semis against Colorado Rapids, before the team fell short in a heartbreaking 5-4 PK loss.
Still, that run — complete with Player of the Day honors and even a shoutout from Brad Guzan — was nothing short of legendary.
U16s Knock Off Club América in Showstopping Upset
Head coach William Bates had his U16s locked in, and they delivered with a knockout round win over Club América, one of the most storied clubs in Mexico.
Behind future star Ignacio Suarez — who’s already signed with Atlanta United 2 — the U16s battled hard and came out with a 2-1 victory that lit a fire for the entire Atlanta contingent. It was more than a win — it was a statement that the 5-Stripes don’t back down from anyone.
From Academy to the First Team
This tournament wasn’t just about trophies. It was about proving that Atlanta’s Academy is built different. From Will Reilly to Matt Edwards to Dominik Chong Qui, the Homegrowns are already making an impact in MLS, and these U16s and U18s are clearly next in line.
